Diwali

Lesson: EYFS

Class: Class 1 Year: 2022 - 2023

Diwali is the Festival of Lights and to celebrate we have spent this week learning all about the history and traditions of this Hindu celebration.

We read the story, Lighting a Lamp to help us understand the traditions and key elements that make Diwali such a special time. We understand that people celebrating Diwali will wear special clothes, decorate their houses, make delicious food to share and watch fireworks. We learnt that families visit the temple to give thanks and spend time with friends.

We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and how good triumphed over evil which is why Hindu families light Diva lamps to remind them.

The children created rangoli patterns out of chalk, dough and sequins. We created our own mehndi designs and built Hindu temples in the construction area.

We developed our fine motor skills by using clay to make Diva lamps and tools to add patterns.

We have filled our week with light and colour and we look forward to comparing our Diwali celebrations to our Bonfire Night celebrations next week!
