Woodland School
Lesson: EYFS
Class: Class 1 Year: 2017 - 2018
Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the changes that have occurred in our environment now Autumn has truly arrived. We spent our day making bird feeders using pine cones, lard and bird seed. We then made bird feeder wreaths and we added monkey nuts, suet blocks and meal worms.
We looked closely at a selection of pine cones; we compared the size and shape then we looked at the seeds. We have set up our own pine cone weather station and we carried out an experiment to check it works. The pine cones opened up in our warm, dry classroom but once placed in cold water they closed quickly. We will continue to use the pine cones alongside our thermometer and new rain gauge to monitor the changes in weather.
We went to our woodland school this afternoon to hang our bird feeders and spend time exploring the tinker tree, bug hotel and the deep carpet of Autumn leaves that has appeared!
