National Poetry Day
Lesson: English
Class: Class 1 Year: 2022 - 2023
Today, Class 2 celebrated National Poetry Day which is celebrated every year on 6th October. This year's theme is 'Environment.'
We read the poem 'What do we do on a nature walk?' by Kate Williams, then set off on our own nature walk around the school grounds, gathering natural materials, drawing pictures and writing vocabulary to inspire our class poem.
Back in the classroom we talked about the things we had found and collected adjectives to describe them. We discussed the rhyming words in the poem and tried to think of rhyming pairs we could use in our own. We followed the structure of the original poem to create a class poem and drew pictures of the natural materials for display.
Today, Class 4 enjoyed completing the BBC live lesson, along with many other schools around the country. We wrote fantastic acrostic poems about nature, including similes and metaphors. We also performed a poem about nature.
In Reception we read several poems about Autumn, focussing on leaves and colours. We recited our own Autumn poem and illustrated it with leaf rubbings.
