Colour Sculpture Artist Visit
Lesson: Art and design
Class: Class 3 Year: 2016 - 2017
Class 3 were very lucky to take part in a locally funded day long project led by local artist Lorna Fellas. The children were asked to bring in old wrapping paper from home to help with the project.
Firstly we set up 6 colour stations in the classroom and the children sorted all the papers into the 6 primary and secondary colours in the colour wheel. We then constructed our colour wheel on the floor, using lots of different shades of each colour in each segment of the wheel. Our wheel was so effective we decided to try and preserve it by covering the top with sticky back plastic which worked really well.
In the afternoon the children on each colour station covered willow sticks with their given colour and we then constructed 6 tetrahedrons using the covered sticks. Finally, we put the tetrahedrons together to make our final sculpture which was very effective. Both the colour wheel and the sculpture are now hanging in the hall at St Johns and they look fantastic! Thank you to Lorna and her colleague Emma for giving the children such a wonderful learning experience.
