Class 3 - Chester trip to Grosvenor Museum
Lesson: History
Class: Class 3 Year: 2019 - 2020
Class 3 have had an amazing day learning in Chester. We investigated the Romanisation of Britain and explored life in Roman Chester.
We started the day with an interactive session, children were able to get hands on a with real Roman artefacts, children looked at Roman pottery, mosaics, roof tiles, We were able to dress up as Roman citizens and prepare food from a Roman cookbook.
After a short lunch children went on a a march with a Roman soldier around his fortress home. We had practice drils and learnt Roman shield formations. Surprisingly, children were able to break through the adult formation. As always the children represented our school perfectly and marched through Chester chanting "sin, sin, sin, dex, sin" in Latin, which means "left, left, left, right, left".
When back at the museum we toured the Roman galleries, examining the stories of Roman Chester, Finally, we left the museum for a walk on the Roman walls. We managed a short rest sitting at the bank of the river Dee before returning home.
