Class 4 blog
Hi, and welcome to our Class 4 blog page. This is the first of many blogs to come.
We’re going to use this blog to share all of the learning and exciting things we have done with our class.
This half term we have done:
Maths - Our current concepts are decimals, fractions and percentages. We have been adding and subtracting decimals, working out equivalent fractions and looking at percentages and learning how to convert them into each other. We have really enjoyed learning that they are all different ways of saying the same thing! We asked some pupils, ‘What is your favorite part of this concept?’
“I liked adding the decimals.” “I liked finding percentages.”
English – We have had a look at a few topic books- The Strange Case of Origami Yoda (by Tom Angleberger) and The Hidden Forest (by Jeannie Baker). We have done some diary entries, asked questions about a character, wrote how a character’s feelings changed throughout the book and sorted out facts about sea kelp. We asked some more pupils: `What is your favorite part of English?’
“I like writing diary entries!” “I like reading the books.”
Every week, we do grammar lesson through Grammar Bug! We really enjoy doing our grammar. This week, we have been focusing on main and subordinate clauses. We also do a full year group guided reading. The year six pupils have been reading The Road to Freedom and year 5 have been reading a book called Below Deck: A Titanic Story.
IPC – Our topic is `Out Of Africa’- it is all about the evolution of humans and different species. Our key concepts are: evolution and diversity. Some other important vocabulary we have learned is: reproduction, dominance and inheritance. We have made geological timelines, looked at life cycles of animals, looked at different scientist’s theories of how the dinosaurs became extinct and watched a video of the evolution of humans. We have even looked at different types of micro-organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa. We asked even more pupils: `What is your favorite part of IPC?’
“I like the diagrams that we do.” “I like the video that we got to watch.”
R.E. – Our Christian value this half-term is trust. A few weeks ago, class 4 went to a synagogue, we learnt about Judaism and how they pray. We have learnt and retold two stories of trust (The Parable of the Tax Collector and the Pharisee, and The Unforgiving Servant). We also focused on sins and that you can always forgive someone.
“I liked learning about the diffrent types of sins.” “I like seeing different people’s religions.”
Wellbeing/PSHE/No Outsiders – In wellbeing, the year fives have done two books, ‘How to Heal a Broken Wing’ and ‘Dazzling Travis’ which shows you should be confident in who you are.
The year sixes have read ‘The island’ and ‘Jabari Jumps’ which is about not being scared to do things. We have made some wonderful support balloons to show who supports us.
MFL – In French, we have learnt how to say the weather in different parts of France and say if we like different types of fruits. Some names of fruits we have learned are une pomme, une fraise, une cerise and une banane.
Forest schools – This term the year 5s have been up in our lovely forest schools every Friday afternoon. It has been a wonderful treat.
Some exciting news – this year we have had two very exciting additions to the school. The first is we have had solar panels on our roof to help complete the sustainable development goals. The second is we have had a wonderful gazebo to shelter us from the rain.
Childen’s Mental Health Week-Last week it was children’s mental health week. Our teacher, Mrs Watson, decided that we could go on a live assembly. On the live, the pupils from two other schools made a support balloon. Class 4 decided to give them a go.
That is it for our first class 4 blog we hope you enjoyed seeing what we have been up to this half term. We will see you next time on the CLASS BLOG-
