Class 4 Blog ? Autumn First Half Term
Hello, welcome to the class 4 blog. We will be telling you about all the learning we have done this half term.
MATHS- This half term in maths, Year 6 have been focusing on place value, prime and cube numbers and long multiplication. Year 5 have been focusing on place value (numbers up to 1 million),partitioning numbers, rounding up to 1 million and column addition and subtraction with more than four digits.
ENGLISH- In English this half term, we have planned and created our own newspapers based on a book we have read ( Boy in the Tower.) We have also created our own apocalyptic story’s based on this book.
HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY-We learnt about the countries that were part of the Mayan civilization (Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, Honduras and part of Mexico.)We also had a look into the social hierarchy of the Maya.

Next, we looked at Mayan Beliefs and linked them to our prior learning.
MFL- In French, we have been taking a look at the days of the week, months of the year and learning how to say our birthday using: Mon anniversaire est le.
R.E/WELLBEING- Our Christian value this half term is creation. In R.E, we have been exploring the concept of light. We have also explored ‘I am’ sayings in John’s gospel. In wellbeing, Year 6 have been reading a book called ‘Dreams of Freedom’. Year 5 have been reading a book called, ‘Do you have a secret?’ We have read a book in No Outsiders called Where the Poppies Now Grow; we have looked into the book and done a piece of work on it.
SCIENCE/ TECHNOLOGY- Our topic is ‘Bake It’. We have been exploring yeast and what it can do. Fun Fact: yeast is a living organism.
SPAG- In SPAG, we have been having a look at nouns and pronouns, and finding them in sentences.
MUSIC- First off, we would like to say a big thankyou to Love Music Trust for our wonderful music lessons. We have been provided with cellos and violins. We have learnt two pieces of music (Manhattan Blues, and Can, Can)
