Sainsbury's School Games - Awards

The school has been recognised for its commitment to physical education through the curriculum and also extra-curricular sports activities.  It also recognises the commitment of the school hosting various sporting competitions and events and the number of pupils competing in competitive competitions.

In July 2017 the school was awarded with the silver mark and we are busily working to acheive the gold mark.


Macclesfield Under 11s Football Tournament November 2018

Pupils from Class 4 took part in this tournament at Derby Fields, where 20 local schools were playing. Although the did not win the tournament they played brilliantly and showed a real team strength. Congratulations to all.

Cricket Training November 2018

Class 3 are enjoying professional cricket training from Andrew Jackson this half term.

Games Maker Conference October 2018

Children in Class 4 have attended the sports Games Maker conference at Wilmslow High School. They were given practical tips and advice on how to improve sport at school. Our ambassadors have decided to run a Tuesday sports club as a result of the meeting. The photo of the children is taken with British Olympic gymnast Craig Heap.

Football Match Against Beech Hall October 2018

In St John's first competitive football match of the 2018/2019 season they have beaten Beech Hall 4-3. It was an amazing game, with lots of encouraging team spirit. Well done St John's!

New Football Kit September 2018

St John’s will be able to kick-off the new term in style, following the delivery of a free Premier League Primary Stars kit for the football team.

We were awarded the Nike kit, consisting of 15 football shirts, shorts and socks, after a successful online application through the Premier League Primary Stars website. 

Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League said: “The Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment packs provide a fantastic boost to schools at the start of the new school year. We hope that coupled with the free downloadable online resources, we can inspire children to do their best in the classroom and on the sports field.”

Year 4 Squash July 2018

Chris Ogden from Bollington Leisure Centre is busily teaching Year 4 squash, so they can take part in a Bollington tournament. After 6 weeks of intensive training they will be ready to face their opponents from Bollington Cross and Dean Valley.

We are delighted to announce our team won the Bronze medals in the Squah tournament.

Yr 5/6 Mixed Hockey Feb 2018

A big WELL DONE to the St John's teams that took part in the small schools finals at Alderley Edge Hockey Club and finished a fantastic 2nd and 4th place.

YR 5/6 Basketball January 2018

A team from St John's took part in the Open Finals at Wilmslow High School. After some tough matches they managed to secure 2nd Place in the small schools section.......What a fantastic effort!!

X Country Success 2017

Congratulations to the St John's team that are competed in the inter-schools Cross Country races in Macclesfield. Well done team! For three weeks the runners from Year 3 to Year 6 competed at the Athletics Track in Macclesfield against runners form all the other local schools. On two of those weeks the weather conditions were awful but the team bravely battled on and supported each other brilliantly. Tom and Chloe received medals for 'Outstanding Effort.'

Rotary Swimathon March 2017

Well done to the six swimmers who formed the St John's team who swam in this year’s Rotary Swimathon. Together they swam a total of 175 lengths, and raised valuable sponsorship money at the same time. Such was their determination that with only a minute left, of the 45 minute event, they all set off again to boost their tally. Well done each and every one of you, we are very proud of your achievements.

We are delighted to be hosting a number of sporting competitions again this year. We take PE and sports very seriously, and are delighted that Mr Rutherford is able to organise so many events for us. Events scheduled this year include -

Congratulations to the school team that entered the Macclesfield and District Lions Club Swimarathon at Macclesfield Leisure Centre on 15th November.  The sponsor money raised was £593.00   which is a fantastic amount and will go to various U.K. charities.
