Experiences

Our aim is to give the children a wealth of exciting and engaging experiences that will build up their knowledge and understanding through practical, hands on activities.

In the Autumn we collect apples from our on site orchard and the children choose how we could bake with them.

We visit the local area to give a greater understanding of the local environment and architecture.

Each year we welcome in a local bee keeper and up to 10,000 honey bees in a glass hive; the children learn all about the life of a honey bee and the role that a bee keeper has.

We bake biscuits or cakes using the honey as well as making beeswax candles and beeswax wraps (as an alternative to clingfilm).

Each year we incubate chicken eggs. We candle them to check on the development of the embryo and then watch them hatch. We usually care for the chicks for 8 weeks before they go to their new home (always pre arranged to ensure they wil be well cared for). The children weigh them, clean them out and spend time reading to them, as well as having daily cuddles!
